Oh, and Happy New Year!
What an amazing experience! I *barely* made it to the birth of beautiful baby Nia…she was born about 20 minutes after I arrived…but I made it and am so glad I did. She was born at the Midwifery Center at DePaul Hospital – the same place I delivered my baby boy almost 10 months ago. It is a fantastic place with warm, loving midwives who trust a woman’s body to birth naturally.
Dee, you were awesome and I hope you will treasure these photos of your baby girl’s entrance to this world. Happy Birthday, baby Nia! Enjoy your sneak peek – I have about 85 photos in the gallery coming to you soon!
Thank you, again, Dee and Luis for allowing me to be present for and capture such a monumental event in your lives.
What a perfect day for CAKE! Miss “H” was so adorable in her birthday outfit – and she did an awesome job smashing her cake as you will see! We started with a clean baby – pretty white birthday shirt and adorable purple tutu!
We struggled a bit to get the hat tied under her chin, but we were successful! She tasted the cake and seemed to like it:
Then, the fun began!
The caption for this final shot is, “Did I do it right, Mommy?”

BTW: A little back story on the photo you see. Those are my children…I was desperately trying to get my own Christmas Card pictures taken the other day (yes, I’m *that* behind this year!) but was trying completely on my own. It is impossible to pose a 3 1/2 year old and a 9 month old and get back to the camera and line up the shot before one (or both!) of them move. I snapped about 5 shots before giving up. LOL! Luckily, I managed to catch this one and love it!
Okay, back to the craziness of the holiday season! A VERY BIG ANNOUNCEMENT will be made at the end of the month, so keep an eye on the blog!!
…and anyone with an almost three-year-old knows exactly what I mean when I say that we were on the move trying to capture his personality! This is the second time I’ve photographed the “S” family and even though I know his mom was exhausted by the end of our shoot, I hope she’ll agree that it was worth it when she sees these shots:
I just love matching girl outfits! Makes me almost wish I had two girls – even though I wouldn’t trade my little guy for anything…these two just were too perfectly matched for words. I know mom is VERY anxious to see a sneak peek and I’m betting she left our session thinking that we didn’t get anything workable. This first shot pretty much sums up how the evening went:
Little sister was just not having it – until Mommy saved the day with Puffs. I *puffy heart* love those things! She perked up enough to capture those gorgeous eyes – and big sister was a trooper. Hope you are happy with these, Amy!
How do I measure the success of a photoshoot? In general, if the family is happy with the proofs, I am happy. But, when working with children under the age of 4, I find it VERY satisfying if I can get just ONE fantastic picture of siblings together where they’re both smiling and looking at the camera. Without further ado…here’s your shot, Ryall! ;-0
Oh, and there are a few other nice ones, too!!
One with CAM and the Grandparents, too!!
I am having so much fun with fall! The leaves make for such pretty backgrounds and I know this family was hoping for that very thing for their portraits. I can’t believe I had two beautiful girls with amazing curls this week – check out little “C”s fantastic long ringlets. Simply a-dorable! Oh, and her baby brother is just as cute. Enjoy your sneak peek!
